Introducing Lauren”Bear” Reynolds – BMX Supercross

By Sam Baron

One of our shining lights Lauren is a Bunbury girl, born and bred in WA.
Reynolds joined the Bunbury BMX club at the age of nine and from humble beginnings which saw her use an ice cream lid as a number plate, 21 years later, she has become Australia's first three-time Olympian in BMX.

What is your most memorable sporting moment?
Making my very first olympic team. I was selected on my 21st birthday, traveling to Salt lake city in the USA and the air hostess wished me happy birthday and congratulated me on the selection! In this her debut games she ranked inside the top 10!

She is heading into her 3rd Olympic games and she is just the fourth BMX rider in Olympic history to achieve this feat and it puts her in the company of other Australian athletes like Dawn Fraser, Betty Cuthbert and Cathy Freeman.

Lauren physically feels the most prepared she’s ever felt for any Olympic Games. “I've obviously had the experience, I'm 30 now, I feel as ready as I'll ever be and I feel very capable of being a competitive threat.”

What is your hidden talent?
I love to build my own bikes and service them all, not many girls build their bikes!

Oh and she has the CUTEST Goldendoodle called Winston!!! And lives with her girlfriend in San Diego, California

Lauren finished 5th overall in the Olympics BMX.

Well done from Women In Sport WA
